The Sunnyside Story & Mission

The Sunnyside Commons is a project of Missio Dei Communities. The Phx community of Missio Dei was able to purchase the property at 11747 N. 19th Ave in July of 2025 and immediately got to work renovating the old office building. The goal was not to create another “church building” that is used on Sunday mornings and possibly Wednesday evenings, but sits mostly empty the rest of the week. Instead, they wanted to make a space for the community. While Missio Dei Phoenix does have a Sunday morning service at the Commons (10am), the space will be open Tue-Sat to the public, not for religious services, but for the common good of the neighborhood.

We are excited to get this space open and to see the relationships that are formed within it! Some of what we plan for the space include:

• On-site counselors

• Cultivate Coffee cart

• Rotating food trucks

• Courtyard with seating and lawn games

• Coworking with free wifi

• Meeting rooms available for rent

• Workshops & community events

• Markets with local vendors

• The Sharing Shop clothing bank
